chestnut not roasting

This is what a chestnut looks like when it has just begun the process of germination.
We don't live in a temperate climate, but mum has planted it anyway.
If it survives and thrives, i shall post about that.
it's cold here, but our mango trees have yet to flower.

smaller steps

my last post, 6 whole months ago, was about the small steps you can take. philosophizing about them more than actual suggestions. i thought the first six months of 2011 were tough. i'd no idea what tough was.
at the start of a new year, i hope for the best- for me, my family and friends, and the living organism that supports us all: our planet.
i've noticed that when i feel down in the plastic-choked dumps, something from the natural world amazes or amuses me: cormorants blackly gleaming by a still pond. a stingray leaping out of a river. a cat with a milky stain around its mouth. brilliant and demure flowers. my mother clucking over her chickens (and chicks).
will i make paper, or buttons of coconut shell this year? i hope so.
good green intentions. it's all in the mind.
so- cross your crooked bridges. carry your reusable bags. care for the world.
skaal!
